Thank you for registering!

Welcome to Rose City Rowing Club!

Thank you for joining us. There are several more steps needed to get fully registered and ready to join a session.

If you’re new here, bookmark this page so you can find it again. You’ll need to go through all of the following steps before your athlete can join a boat.

If you’ve already joined a previous session, you do not need to complete these steps — once is enough!

If you have further athletes to register, click here to return to the payments page.

Make sure to check out the Team tools, Practice procedures, and Contact sections of this page!

Registration next steps

  • Complete the medical waiver

You’ll need to keep your medical information up to date.

  • Register with US Rowing

US Rowing is the national organization for our sport. Registration is mandatory, and provides critical insurance for all our athletes.

To register, click the button below. On the following page, type Rose City as the club name, and use the code CXN6G to verify.

If you are planning on competing at the regional level or higher, choose a Championship membership. Otherwise, select a Basic membership.

  • Complete a float test

Not all rowers are confident swimmers -- and that's ok! Rose City athletes are not required to complete the Float Test. They can row with an inflatable life jacket instead.

To complete the test, your athlete can go to any pool or body of water and have any lifeguard watch them complete the requirements and sign the form (it's best to just show up to open swim times, rather than calling ahead). Families have had success at Grant Pool, Sellwood Pool, Sherwood YMCA, and community center pools.

The best way to submit this form is to send a picture or a scan via email attachment to rcrcinformation@gmail.com, but we will accept hard copy forms as well if needed.

Float test notwithstanding, please do let us know if your child is not a strong swimmer.

  • Join the Athlete Portal

We strongly encourage all parents and students to join the Athlete Portal!

The Athlete Portal is our main way of disseminating critical information and details. It also has race information, workouts, photos, and more.

To join, click the button below and use the passcode pdxrows to gain access to the registration form.

Practice procedures

Attendance

We don't have a minimum attendance requirement. How often athletes come to practice is up to them. However, we find that if athletes come fewer than three days, they usually have a harder time finding a good groove on the team and sometimes quit. The more they row, the more connected they'll be to the team, and the faster they'll improve.

  • Texting in: we do ask athletes to text us at 971-258-2101 by noon every day we have practice (unless they've marked the calendar - see below) to let us know if they will or will not attend that day (and to give us a heads up about any other information, i.e. late arrival time or special circumstances). This helps us immensely to plan the practice and we ask all our athletes to make a daily habit of "texting in."

  • Marking the Calendar: When athletes know in advance that they will not be at practice, they don't have to text in if they "mark the calendar." We have a paper calendar at practice where they can find their name and mark a red "X" on the days they'll miss practice.

Locations + parking

There is street parking throughout our neighborhood. Also, there is some dedicated parking (labeled “Reserved Portland Boathouse”) adjacent to our clubhouse. Each day we practice on the water, we will meet at the clubhouse and walk to our boatyard together. Pickup and drop off will happen at the clubhouse.

If your athlete drives to practice, you can request a parking permit for them for our neighboring Rail Museum lot here. Please note the rules & times so they don't get towed!

Clubhouse: 403 SE Caruthers (This is where the class will meet.)

Boatyard: 306 SE Ivon St (This is where our boats and dock are located.)

What to bring

The essentials:

  • Water bottle

  • Layered clothing! (not too baggy - it is easy to get snagged with the oars)

  • Rain Jacket if applicable

  • Hat, sunscreen if applicable

  • Sneakers/tennis shoes.

Extras:

  • Sunglasses

  • windbreaker/sweatshirt

  • Rain pants. We will row in the rain.

Cell phones and valuables will be stored safely at the clubhouse or boatyard. Athletes should not bring phones on the water. Phones love to go swimming.
